President Poe opened the meeting by presenting four nominees for the village’s newly formed Police & Public Safety Committee — Bill Hanselman, Andy Horn, Jeff (surname unclear in the record), and Jean Tannhauser — and described the committee as advisory. The board moved, seconded and voted to approve the four appointments.
Poe said he chose nominees to provide geographic balance and resident perspectives, and emphasized the committee’s role in improving communication between residents, trustees and the police chief. "They're aware this is an advisory committee," Poe said.
Trustee Thomas then moved and the board approved advancing the appointment of Lieutenant Jim Samick to the Planning and Zoning Commission. Poe and others described Samick’s background, noting his long service with the local fire department and prior surveying experience as factors that would translate well to the commission’s work.
Clerk Reeve administered oaths of office to the newly appointed committee members and Samick. Each appointee repeated an oath to support the U.S. and Illinois constitutions and the ordinances of the village of Sleepy Hollow and to "faithfully discharge the duties" of their respective positions.
Following the swearing-in, Poe urged the new advisory committee members to stay for an organizational meeting and to set objectives with the police chief and staff. No votes were recorded to change the advisory status of the committee.
The board did not take additional substantive action on committee structure at the meeting; the appointments are effective immediately.
