Resident raises concerns about rushed plan to consolidate Warrenville council and committee meetings

Bob Siebert of Albright Court told the council that the proposed changes to how the city schedules council and Committee of the Whole meetings were rushed and lacked analysis of impacts on citizen participation. “For democracy to work, this has to be a 2 way street,” Siebert said, asking that the impact on citizens be identified and that residents have an opportunity to respond.
Alderman Holden Ashar said he lacked sufficient packet materials and asked for more time before a vote. Council members clarified that the action at this meeting authorized the city attorney to draft an ordinance to make the necessary code amendments to consolidate meeting schedules; the authorization was to draft language, not to adopt the ordinance. Staff said the packet included a proposed consolidated schedule and that the schedule can be amended if direction changes before final approval.
Council discussion noted the draft ordinance will return for review and potential amendment, and Alderman Ashar and others said they will coordinate with staff and fellow aldermen to review the proposed language. No final ordinance was adopted at the meeting.
