The Warrenville City Council voted Dec. 15 to amend the city code to consolidate council and standing committee meetings, a change Mayor and staff said will streamline agendas and reduce duplicate administrative work.
Alderman Davalos and staff cited research and examples from other communities, saying the proposed reorganization will reduce duplicate agendas and minutes and allow departments to present items sooner. Director Emery explained the change applies to committee-of-the-whole-style presentations and that the mayor, in consultation with the city administrator, retains flexibility to reorder agenda items by motion or unanimous consent.
Alderman Nash opposed the change, arguing it could make it more difficult for residents to address specific agenda items and that the new structure might require members of the public to wait until after council business or an executive session to speak on items of direct interest. Alderman Berry disagreed with Nash and said the change will allow the public to see departmental presentations and better understand upcoming actions.
After discussion, the council conducted a roll call vote on the ordinance (02025-61). The motion passed with one recorded Nay (Alderman Ashauer); the ordinance will take effect as provided in the ordinance language.
Council members said the proposal was developed with staff and noted that the changes will allow occasional reordering of items when necessary and preserve closed session timing (closed session remains last on the agenda).
