During staff reports the board heard public-safety updates from police leadership.
Chief described an increase in overall traffic stops and specific truck-enforcement initiatives targeting truck routes and truck-stopping locations. Officers are coordinating with neighboring departments for enforcement exchanges and training.
Trustees pressed on a reported large percentage increase in mental-health-related calls. Chief said responses vary by case; transports are typically handled by the fire department and King County offers outreach resources that can be used for repeat-call referrals. The chiefs said the department is using referrals and partner resources to address repeat mental-health calls.
Chiefs also reported a late-night burglary at a local car dealership in which three vehicles were stolen. Staff said the theft appears to be linked to a group operating regionally; preliminary investigative details were limited in the meeting. Trustees raised concerns about visible keys and camera use; police said cameras exist at Village Hall and the library and staff are discussing prevention and camera-usage policies.
The board also heard about planned training (regional critical-incident stress management/CISM, high-risk traffic-stop training and active-shooter scenario drills with local partners).
