Mayor: Broadview’s Juneteenth cost about $100,000; survey and youth outreach planned

Mayor Katrina Thompson used the village president’s report on July 7 to recap the fifth annual Juneteenth celebration and outline next steps to improve the event.
The mayor said the event cost the village roughly $100,000 but was not borne entirely by taxpayers, citing sponsorships and cooperation from partners including the Broadview Public Library, Park District and local schools. "The event overall cost the village about a $100,000, but that's not just coming out from taxpayers," she said.
Thompson said the village will issue a survey to attendees and meet with young people to collect ideas about scheduling and programming; she noted heat and safety considerations will inform planning. She also praised residents for property upkeep and asked them to contact the village with concerns. The board set the next regular meeting for Aug. 4.
The mayor closed by thanking volunteers and partners and wishing the community a safe summer.
