Broadview swears in new police commander and promotes multiple officers

The Broadview Village Board used part of its July 7 meeting to confirm several personnel moves in the police department, swearing in a new commander and promoting long‑serving officers.
Brendan McCrudden took the oath of office as police commander. "Very happy to be here," McCrudden said after the swearing; Chief Mills and trustees praised his institutional experience and commitment to the community.
The board authorized the promotion of Sergeant Ian Florentino to lieutenant and conducted his oath; the motion carried 5–0. Trustees highlighted Florentino’s work leading the field training officer (FTO) program and his years with the department.
Later the board approved the promotion of officer Tony Matthews to sergeant; Trustee Miller had arrived and the motion carried 6–0. Colleagues commended Matthews for improving officer wellness and outfitting a departmental gym.
The board also administered oaths to Detective Anthony Beatty, a hire with decades of investigative experience, and Officer Antonio Whitfield, a Marine Corps veteran and former Chicago police officer. Trustees and the mayor welcomed the new and promoted officers and noted the department’s increasing diversity.
All personnel motions were moved, seconded and approved on roll-call votes as recorded in the meeting minutes.
