Georgetown — During public comment on July 1, Roger Sherman described repeated nuisance behavior near his mother’s Vermilion home, saying a neighbor or nearby resident has been riding dirt bikes and four-wheelers, doing donuts in the street and throwing rocks into yards.
Sherman told the council he and others have contacted police in the past, and that prior responses had not stopped the behavior; he provided the council with copies of two ordinances he believes are being violated (disorderly conduct and the noise ordinance). Mayor Darin Readnour said he would talk with the police chief about the complaint.
Separately, an alderman raised safety concerns about e-bikes and scooters after several near-miss incidents in which riders failed to stop and entered traffic. The council did not record a formal policy response during the meeting, but the mayor’s commitment to consult with the police chief indicates the city will review enforcement or outreach options.
The council’s public-safety report, approved as presented, also recorded that the police department logged over 170 calls, three ordinance violations and both in-town and out-of-town assists for the prior reporting period.
