Alder Dennis Davidson countered that fluoride can benefit children who do not receive dental care and asked how much fluoride is currently in the city’s water and how much would be added under existing practice. The discussion focused on the need for data about concentrations and potential public-health effects before any policy change.
A motion to table the item for additional research was made by Alder Mike Scott and seconded by Alder Mitch Weaver; the minutes record the motion as passed unanimously, with the minutes listing a 6–0 vote. No ordinance or formal policy change was adopted; the council directed that more information be gathered before placing the matter back on an agenda.
