The Georgetown City Council voted Aug. 4 to partner with the local school district on a branding effort that would install banners on city light poles, approved a $100 donation to Operation Backpack and authorized an email-billing option for municipal utility customers.
The council approved the GRHS branding request after a presentation noting the school district received a $5 million grant payable over five years to support branding work in Georgetown and Ridge Farm. The district asked the city to allow banners on light poles and to replace directional school signage; council members said the city will coordinate installation logistics with maintenance staff. Mayor Darin Readnour said he will ask Rusty Berry to assess pole spacing and guardrail conflicts, and staff noted the city may need to use every other pole because of existing holiday and seasonal decorations. The measure passed unanimously (motion by Alder Mitch Weaver; second by Alder Curt Gordon).
Council also approved a $100 donation to Operation Backpack (motion by Alder Curt Gordon; second by Alder Michelle Brooks), and authorized adding an email module to the Locis billing system, enabling residents to receive utility bills by email rather than postal mail. Supporters cited rising postage costs and instances of residents not receiving mailed bills; the email option was approved unanimously (motion by Alder Jack Morrison; second by Alder Mitch Weaver).
Separately, the council authorized payment of 30 vendor invoices totaling $51,223.61 (List 890), approving the payment list by unanimous vote (motion by Alder Mitch Weaver; second by Alder Mike Scott). The council also approved routine minutes and personnel committee items, with abstentions recorded on two personnel committee minutes as noted in the record.
During announcements, Alder Steffanie Lyons addressed a report that she had shared meeting information with Travis Digby; Lyons denied the claim and asked colleagues to consult her directly with questions. The meeting adjourned at 7:48 p.m.
