Council adopts Class D license for 309 Marketplace; Lucky’s Landing first reading set

Council approved the second reading and adoption of an ordinance creating a Class D liquor license for 309 Marketplace LLC at 129 North Randolph Street and conducted the first reading of a proposed Class V license for WearBrands Inc., doing business as Lucky's Landing, at 504 West Jackson.

The city attorney reviewed the 309 Marketplace application, noting the required notices under the Macomb Municipal Code, completion of background checks of principals and resident managers, and no written protests from property owners within 250 feet; the council voted to adopt the ordinance on roll call (all ayes).

For the Lucky’s Landing application, the city attorney summarized required public notice and said a public hearing was held that evening. Marty, the petitioner for Lucky’s Landing, told the council his store contributes about $55,000 a year in state and local sales taxes, said the business paid a $10,000 license fee and forecasted that development nearby would push annual contributions to the city above $100,000. He described internal controls to keep underage patrons away from machines and alcohol, and requested the council trust the business with one of the city’s limited Class V liquor licenses. The item was recorded as first reading and placed on next week’s Committee of the Whole for additional discussion.
