Assistant Administrator Bechler told the board that petitioner Paul Chiaverini seeks to expand a covered front porch and that, following a similar recent request, staff and the Planning & Zoning Commission recommended amending the zoning code to allow permanently roofed-over porches in locations where open porches are now permitted. The commission had no opposition and unanimously recommended approval to the Village Board.
Paul Chiaverini said he had photos of other covered porches in the village for the board to review but offered no additional comments. Trustee Devin Hester moved to place on the next meeting agenda for approval an ordinance amending portions of the zoning ordinance pertaining to permanently roofed-over porches (Zoning Case 2025-08); Trustee Kirsten Wall seconded. A roll-call vote was unanimous in favor and the motion passed.
The change proposed in the minutes is framed as a text amendment to the zoning code intended to reduce the number of variance requests for similar porch projects. The minutes do not include the proposed ordinance text, the specific code sections to be amended, or the staff report details; those materials were not included in the recorded minutes for this meeting.
