Georgetown council approves budget amendment, homecoming parade and police staff change; tables internet proposal

The Georgetown City Council on Aug. 18 approved an amended FY2024-25 budget ordinance, authorized a homecoming parade permit for Oct. 8 and accepted a police officer’s shift from full-time to part-time, while deferring consideration of a proposed Conxxus phone and internet contract.
The council approved Ordinance 2025-172, an amendment to the city’s 2024–25 budget, on a motion by Alder Curt Gordon with a second from Alder Nick Krabel. Council members did not request further detail in the minutes before voting to approve the ordinance as presented.
The budget action was among several routine items approved at the meeting. The council authorized payment of List 891 — 46 vendor payments totaling $55,613.40 — and accepted the treasurer’s and clerk’s reports. The clerk’s report noted issuance of building permits to Doug Howard and Lisa Alspaugh and the collection of waste lab payments totaling $5,716.25.
Council also approved Resolution 2025-171, permitting the Homecoming Parade on Oct. 8, on a motion by Alder Mike Scott and second by Alder Robert Weaver. On personnel, the council approved a request to change a police officer’s status from full-time to part-time after a motion by Alder Curt Gordon and a second from Alder Mike Scott.
The council voted to table the Conxxus phone/internet proposal after Treasurer Amy Cavanaugh asked whether the city has a current contract with Sparklight and whether Conxxus would cover any exit fees. Alder Michelle Brooks moved to table the item with a second from Alder Stephanie Lyons; the minutes record the item as tabled pending further information.
The meeting record shows multiple routine departmental reports accepted without further action: Street & Alley maintenance and overtime, water and sewer operational and testing updates (staff identified as Ed and Will), and a public safety report noting more than 121 calls and multiple assists.
Public comment included a single speaker, Janet Matin, who raised concerns about a sewer odor near Woodland. Mayor Darin Readnour explained that drains can emit odors during dry periods and indicated the matter did not prompt immediate action in the meeting record.
