Georgetown council hires water trainee, approves payments and 2026 calendar; public comments on senior center and Pinecrest

The Georgetown City Council on Nov. 17 approved several routine items and, after an executive session on personnel, hired Tanner Steele as a water and sewer operator in training.
Council authorized payment of List 897, consisting of 32 vendor payments totaling $42,559.71; the motion carried unanimously. Treasurer Amy Cavanaugh told the council the water fund is "struggling" this month due to the annual RMA bill.
In new business the council approved the city’s 2026 meeting dates and holiday schedule and passed Resolution 2026 to authorize the Christmas parade; each item passed on unanimous votes.
The council entered executive session under 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(5) for personnel matters and reconvened at 8:18 p.m. The Personnel Committee recommended hiring Tanner Steele as a water/sewer operator in training; the council approved the hire on a motion by Alder Robert Weaver with a second from Alder Michelle Brooks, vote 7–0.
During public comment residents raised local concerns. Rita Hutson asked whether senior-center funds could buy $15 Save-A-Lot gift cards for seniors and questioned why the city does not charge rental fees for private use of the senior center; Treasurer Amy Cavanaugh explained the center’s account balance and the clerk said the Lions Club and Ladies Club are permitted to use the facility at no charge. Christine Holycross asked whether the Pinecrest parking lot and drainage would be discussed; Alder Michelle Brooks said she had spoken with Mrs. Neal, who indicated funds earmarked for a high-school project could be redirected to Pinecrest if needed. Janet Greene thanked the council for resolving a vehicle issue on her property.
Announcements included the Holiday Parade on Dec. 7 at 5:30 p.m., a City employee Christmas lunch on Dec. 19, and a request for lists of possible rehabs/demolitions. The meeting adjourned at 8:20 p.m.
