The Georgetown City Council voted unanimously on Nov. 17 to award the contract for a records storage building to Hillside Development following a presentation from Jared Young, a Hillside representative.
Young told the council Hillside prepared the project specifications and described differences between bids, noting Hillside’s proposal included what he called an 'FBI building' model, which he said carries a lifetime warranty on the framing, while an alternate bid appeared to be for a packaged Graber building with different warranty terms. He said Hillside is prepared to assist the city with site pad preparation and that the firm’s architect work for the project would typically cost about $10,000.
Mayor Darin Readnour noted Hillside previously built the city’s police station and reported no prior issues with their work. Council discussion emphasized that the city need not accept the lowest-priced bid if there are concerns about warranty, materials or build quality.
The motion to award the contract to Hillside carried on a motion by Alder Curt Gordon and a second by Alder Nick Krabel and passed unanimously, 7–0.
The council did not provide detailed contract terms during the meeting; a city staff follow-up was noted as needed for final scheduling and site-preparation responsibilities.
