Georgetown delays Auto Read meter upgrade until next fiscal year; treasurer to include cost in budget

On Jan. 5 the Georgetown City Council approved moving forward with an Auto Read program upgrade but decided not to update the current system until after the start of the new fiscal year. Treasurer Amy Cavanaugh told the council she would incorporate the upgrade into the next budget process.
The motion to approve the plan and defer implementation was made by Alder Nick Krabel and seconded by Alder Stephanie Lyons; the motion passed unanimously, 5–0. The minutes state the current program “will not work with windows in the near future,” which council members cited as the reason to plan an upgrade while delaying purchase until the new fiscal year.
Council did not record a dollar figure for the upgrade in the minutes; Treasurer Cavanaugh will present budget language during regular budget development. Staff will return with final procurement details and timing after council direction and budget adoption.
