On public safety, a council member moved to hire AC Pardot as a full‑time police officer; the motion was seconded and carried after roll call. A council member noted Pardot had completed required testing. Mayor Harvock told attendees, “So, girls, we just hired a new police officer,” addressing the Girl Scouts present.
The council also accepted a bid to sell Lot 30. The mayor announced a single bid from Cameron Meath on behalf of Evergreen Lawn Service for $29,000, which met the advertised reserve. A motion to accept the Evergreen Lawn Service bid carried unanimously; the mayor described the sale as the city’s first lot sale in a new complex on the east side and said it would pave the way for new business and related paperwork.
On land use, a planning commissioner reported that the planning commission held a hearing on a variance request for 1010 Locust Street and moved to adopt Ordinance No. 1573 to grant that variance. The motion was seconded and approved by the council.
Other items recorded in the meeting included a personnel probation conclusion for Joe Ledlow effective Feb. 15 and a $1 per hour step increase for him, authorization to seek bids for Redwood Business Park Phase 2, and a spring training seminar stipend (not to exceed $300 per attendee) for GUA spring training. The finance and personnel committees reported no additional business.
The meeting closed with announcements about upcoming calendar items and a call to adjourn; the mayor adjourned the meeting at 6:11 p.m.
