Macomb to consider right-of-way easement for Prairie Power; city will require proof of pole purchase

The Macomb City Council Committee agreed to place consideration of a right-of-way easement on the Jan. 5, 2026 agenda after staff described Prairie Power’s request to formalize an easement for a pole on city-owned property along Wigwam Hollow Road (parcel 07000291-10).
Alice Ortman, the city’s public works director, said Prairie Power is purchasing a pole from McDonough Power and wants the city to formalize an easement where the pole stands. "McDonough Power did not have an easement," Ortman said, and staff told the company the city will not approve an easement until Prairie Power provides proof of purchase of the pole.
A draft easement was included in the council packet, and Ortman said the request was previously discussed at the Public Works Subcommittee. The committee directed staff to place the easement item on the Jan. 5 action agenda so the council may consider it after the company supplies proof of purchase.
No final approval or easement was granted at the Dec. 17 meeting; the item will return for a formal action on Jan. 5, 2026.
