Council authorizes bids and survey work for Oakwood Cemetery accessibility and plot planning

The Macomb City Council authorized two items related to Oakwood Cemetery: (1) receiving bids to install an Americans with Disabilities Act–accessible wheelchair lift at the Oakwood Cemetery office building (1027 North Randolph Street) and (2) contracting with IMEG to survey and map the southern section of the cemetery to lay out new plots and incorporate a north–south road.
Public Works Director Alice Ortman described the survey need as a remedy for historic layout inconsistencies: "Many moons ago, the entire cemetery was laid out and planted. But as progress has been going through it, we've kinda lost some of the corners," she said, explaining IMEG would plot from the current area to the south road and lay out new plots.
Both items were recommended by the Public Works Committee and carried on the council floor by roll call votes. The wheelchair-lift item was moved to receive bids; the IMEG survey authorization will allow staff to finalize plans and bring construction work forward under site-plan review and permitting as needed.
Council members had no substantive objections on the floor; both motions carried with unanimous ayes.
