Council authorizes Walmart Sparks grant application and schedules first reading for arcade‑license change

The council authorized city staff to apply for a Walmart Sparks grant of roughly $5,000 to benefit the transportation department. The grant writer said the funds would be used for tablet cases, charging stations and chairs for transit tablets and that there is no match or reporting requirement.
"...we are asking to apply again. This would be for transit... they are requesting tablet cases, charging ports or charging stations for these tablets... we were requesting to apply for around $5,000," the grant writer said.
Separately, the council held a first reading of an ordinance to amend chapter 2 of the Macomb Municipal Code to establish a new liquor‑license classification for arcade entertainment centers under authority of the Illinois Liquor Control Act. The general government committee had recommended the change unanimously; the ordinance will be discussed further at next week's Committee of the Whole meeting (first reading only — no final action tonight).
The motion to authorize the Walmart Sparks grant application was approved by roll call (all ayes).
