Council approves amended lease with Macomb City Township in second reading

The City Council voted to authorize execution of an amended lease agreement between the city and Macomb City Township. The city attorney said the original lease was executed on 09/20/2022 and the proposed amendment would lease additional space adjacent to the township's existing offices; if adopted, the mayor is authorized to execute the amendment attached as Exhibit A.
Councilmembers described the purchase or lease as part of a broader downtown-investment and redevelopment plan, with one member highlighting the property as the last known tangible building in Macomb where Abraham Lincoln was physically present. Alderman Dave Dorsen said the site "is provable" and connects to the city’s convention and visitors programming.
After discussion the council moved and seconded the ordinance and approved it by roll call (all ayes). The ordinance had its first reading on Jan. 20 and passed second reading at this meeting.
