City weighs purchase‑agreement option for 30‑acre Jackson Crossing site; public open house set

Scott said the stated purchase price in the packet is $2,000,000 and that the agreement includes a due‑diligence period through Aug. 31, 2026, which can be extended to Aug. 31, 2027.
Scott emphasized that the agreement is an option and that ‘‘there is no initial cash outlay of any sort’’ and no penalty to the city if it decides not to proceed at the end of the due‑diligence period. He said the project is centered around an economic‑development sports complex and that, because some funding would likely come from the business‑district development body (BDD) or a TIF district, the council would likely adopt a resolution rather than an ordinance if it moves forward.
Scott also said the city plans a public open house to present the project and take questions on March 26 at 5:30 p.m. at the Spoon River Outreach Center. Council did not vote on the agreement during this meeting.
