Macomb — City staff won council approval to install three Type 2 electric-vehicle chargers downtown and at city parking sites, using grant funding.
Staff said the project includes one charger at the transit center (conduit already in place), one at the city lot on Campbell and Calhoun, and one at the city parking lot near Jackson and McArthur. The council awarded the installation contract to AMP Companies Incorporated for $23,485 and authorized purchase of three chargers from EV Energy for $25,119, for a combined cost of $48,604. Staff told council they have already received a $50,000 grant from Ameren to fund the installation.
Council members noted these are Type 2 chargers (slower than Type 3) but said constituents were enthusiastic about the project. The council approved the contracts by unanimous roll call.
