Macomb — The City Council voted to approve a contract enabling advertisements to be placed on city transit vehicles, including heavy-duty buses, cutaway buses and demand-response minivans.
Transit staff (Miss Petrino) said the agreement allows the vendor to determine ad placement and pricing across three main bus locations and smaller vehicles; the city will receive the greater of a percentage of ad revenue or a guaranteed payment with no upfront cost. The contract covers advertising on heavy-duty buses and expands this year to include cutaway buses (14 passengers) and minivans used for demand response.
Council members asked whether removing an objectionable ad would sideline a vehicle; staff said vinyl can be removed quickly without taking a bus out of service. After brief questions about revenue treatment and prior similar arrangements, council approved the contract by roll call.
