Hampshire Historical Society outlines 150th anniversary plans, invites public to time-capsule opening

"We are so grateful to all of you who continue to lead this town and dedicate your time and talent," Engle said, and described plans for a weekend of "old-fashioned days," monthly programs and an initiative to record interviews with longtime residents.
Bill Swalwell, the society's vice president, gave logistical details for a time-capsule exhumation tied to the anniversary. He said volunteers will dig up the vault on Monday, open it on site, and move its contents to a secure location for inventory and conservation. "It's open to the public. It starts at 8AM," Swalwell said, and urged residents to attend.
Swalwell said the group has historic photographs from past celebrations (including materials from 1976 and 2001) and plans displays and small events if the society can secure a temporary headquarters or museum space. Engle also said the society is exploring charitable giving to support a Hampshire history museum.
The society's remarks were delivered during the public-comment portion of the meeting; the board did not take formal action on the society's proposals during the session. The time-capsule opening will proceed with volunteers and staff coordination, and board members thanked the society for the update and the invitation.
