Engineering staff: lead service-line options ready; Safe Routes bid under estimate

Engineering staff reported to the board on two infrastructure matters: remaining lead service-line replacement work and the Safe Routes to School project.
Mister Paulson said staff and the engineering consultant have prepared concept estimates and alternates for the two locations where remaining lead service lines exist. He said staff is ready to present options and budget impacts whenever the board schedules the review — the next meeting or the first meeting in January were both offered as possibilities.
On Safe Routes to School, Paulson said the engineer’s estimate going into bidding was a little over $400,000 and that the low bidder came in at $354,810, which is below the estimate and within the budgeted amounts. Staff said preconstruction discussions went well and that construction is expected to start in March–April with completion before summer; the board asked staff to coordinate communications with the school district and residents about routing and timing.
What happens next: staff will present the lead-service options to the board when scheduled and will proceed with preconstruction coordination for the Safe Routes project.
