Council approves consent agenda, hires meter reader, credits sewer account and adopts two ordinances

At its Oct. 6 meeting the Red Bud City Council approved multiple routine and operational items in a single session.

Consent items (a–o) were read by the mayor and approved as presented; those items included minutes, personnel probation completions, equipment replacement proposals, authorizations to attend conferences, and acceptance of the FY 2025 audit. The council also approved a $60.49 sewer credit for 228 Clarence Drive after staff reported the water leak did not enter the sewer system.

On staffing, the council approved hiring Travis Crick as a part-time meter reader pending required checks at the current rate of $18.10 per hour. Councilors debated whether a full-time meter-reading position would better address recent billing-estimation issues but approved the part-time hire while asking staff to review budgets and future needs.

Parks and Recreation recommended, and the council approved, post-season pool repairs for piping and concrete not to exceed $43,766. Staff cautioned that a full filter-room piping replacement would require permitting and prequalified contractors and could prompt additional required work.

The council also accepted planning commission recommendations and adopted ordinance 15-62 (Mike Henry special use permit) and ordinance 15-63 (Craig Stam variance). Both items had been unanimously recommended by the planning commission and were approved by roll call vote.
