Macomb staff announce $3.5 million in IEPA loan funds and bid plans for water projects

City staff announced new funding and near-term procurement steps for local water and wastewater projects.
Alice Ortman (Alice Ortman) told the committee that the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency will award approximately $3.5 million in State Revolving Fund loan funds for the wastewater treatment plant. She said Macomb qualifies for small-community loan terms of 1.62% over 24 years for that award.
Ortman also said the city received permission to advertise bids for related water treatment projects and that staff will separate the well-drilling work from the remainder of the contract so bidders are not paid to oversee work outside their expertise. "We're gonna bid the well drilling as a separate project from the rest of the project because no need to pay a contractor extra money to oversee something they don't know anything about," she said.
Council members and staff noted that the city has recently received funding from multiple sources, including federal earmarks and the state revolving loan funds, and thanked staff for securing the financing. No bid dates or contractor selections were announced at the meeting; staff said the bidding process is authorized to begin.
