An applicant for a downtown façade grant asked the Macomb City Council committee on April 1 to grant a 60‑day extension to finish renovation work at 129 South Lafayette Street.
The applicant, identified in the record as Miss Ballard, told the committee that two of the three required façade components are complete and that the remaining element is awaiting installation. "So they're asking for a 60 day extension to be able to complete that, project in full," Ballard said.
The ordinance and associated agreement for the façade grant had its first reading at last week’s council meeting. During committee discussion, Alderman Vigezi said the delay was "of no fault of the petitioner," adding that contractors are especially busy during the summer, which contributed to the request for more time.
After brief questions and an invitation for the petitioner to address the committee, the chair said the council would place the ordinance on next week’s city council agenda for second reading and final action. No vote on the ordinance was taken at the committee meeting.
The item will return to the full council next week for a formal vote or further action.
