East Dundee board to return proposed Flood Brothers contract after discussion of modest rate increase and Village Green status

Village staff presented a proposed three‑year waste‑hauler agreement with Flood Brothers that would take effect March 1 and includes two optional one‑year renewals. The contract in the board packet would cover about 1,200 residential customers and show an average rate increase of roughly 3.5% per year over the contract term, staff said.

The staff presentation noted the scope of service would remain largely the same — weekly garbage and recycling collections with continued provision of large totes for multiunit properties — and that Flood Brothers agreed to provide service at no additional cost for two new village events slated for 2026. “The proposed rate is only going up a little over 3%,” a staff speaker said during the presentation.

Trustees pressed staff for clarifications about which complexes pay for service and whether Village Green (a senior housing property added to the franchise in 2016, staff said) should remain under the village residential franchise. A Flood Brothers representative described container sizes and pickup schedules for larger properties and said some senior properties receive discounted or subsidized service; trustees asked staff to confirm the billing arrangements and the exact dollar amount paid by Village Green or other complexes.

Board members signaled general support for returning a resolution at the next meeting. Staff said it will bring the contract back for formal consideration on Feb. 2 and that notices to residents would go out immediately if the board approves a March 1 start.

The discussion was advisory only; no final contract was executed at the meeting. The board also agreed to conduct or commission a truck‑routing study in response to unrelated public comments earlier in the meeting about heavy tractor‑trailer traffic on Barrington Street.
