The Kutztown Area School District board voted March 16 to authorize administration to apply for the Public School Facility Improvement Grant, a state program that supports school facility upgrades. Superintendent (speaker 2) told the board the proposed application would seek about $3.5 million to continue HVAC upgrades, identifying Putsen Elementary as a targeted project.
The superintendent reminded the board that the district had previously secured $450,000 from an earlier round for middle‑school HVAC work over the summer. "Last time there was a round, we did secure $450,000 that was dedicated towards the HVAC upgrade project," the superintendent said, and added that the current application would be larger, at about $3.5 million.
Board members voted on a resolution granting administration authority to apply for the grant; the motion carried on roll call. The board did not commit local matching funds within the motion as recorded at the meeting; administration will proceed with application work as directed.
Next steps: administration will prepare and submit the application per state timelines and report back to the board on application materials and any required local match or project scope decisions.
