Committee moves to put Ameren‑funded EV charger contract on March agenda

He described a council preference to avoid placing equipment directly on the Square and explained he identified three accessible off‑Square locations, including the Cooper parking lot (near Jackson and MacArthur), that would meet council direction. "The chargers are gonna be 25,000 and change, so it's about a total of 48,000 for 3 chargers," Scott said, and he recommended moving forward with the alternate that removes the Square location.
The committee had no substantive objections and the Chair said staff would place the item on the first council meeting in March for action. Aldermen who spoke during the discussion praised the choice of the lot off the Square as a way to preserve on‑Square parking while still increasing EV access downtown.
The decision to advance the procurement does not itself award a contract; council action at the March meeting will determine whether the city accepts the low bid and authorizes contract award. The packet included a bid tabulation and staff cost estimates; council members asked staff to bring the procurement back to the March meeting with the recommended alternate and final contract documents.
