Council hears resident complaints about missed waste pickups and customer-service problems with hauler

The Lebanon City Council heard multiple complaints about missed residential waste pickups during the week of Dec. 1 and about difficulty contacting the hauler, generating concern about customer service and potential contract remedies.
A councilor or resident (Speaker 8) said callers could not reach the hauler and urged the city to press for credit or compensation beyond a small account credit because an unresolved missed pickup leaves residents with overflowing carts for a week. “If they miss it, that’s a week equals a headache,” the speaker said, urging the city to pursue a better customer-service solution.
Councilors and staff discussed past transitions between haulers and the limits of procurement law — the city generally must accept the lowest responsible bidder when the contract goes out to bid in about two years. The attorney (Speaker 9) and other councilors encouraged inviting a hauler representative to a council meeting to answer questions and to provide the company an opportunity to explain route-management issues and corrective measures.
Councilors agreed to ask the mayor’s office to contact the hauler, to request a company representative at a future meeting, and to continue negotiating and documenting the service problems for the record.
