Council votes to strike mayor's final comments from agenda after heated point-of-order

The Oglesby City Council voted to remove the mayor's final comments from the meeting agenda after a heated point-of-order and appeal on Jan. 20.

After discussion of procedure and whether the chair may explain a ruling, a motion was made to strike the mayor's final comments from the agenda; the motion was seconded and the council conducted a roll-call vote. The motion passed by the two-thirds threshold the mayor referenced and the item was removed.

Council members who spoke during the exchange emphasized differing views on agenda control and fairness. Commissioner Collin said he did not support the item being on the agenda though he did not initially consider it out of order; Commissioner (speaker 5) moved to remove the item.
