Village staff report on roads, code updates, fiber work and Winter Wonderland turnout

Public works department head Tucker reported three small road paving projects were finished though staff are working to complete final punch‑list items and hold the contractor to quality standards. The village engineer and staff continue to monitor contractor performance.
Planning staff previewed three items scheduled for the Jan. 13 planning and zoning meeting: a rewrite of the RV/vehicle/trailer ordinance, matters related to Crystal Lake Apartments, and a special permit application for a proposed multifamily project at 4480 Beaverton (approximately 5.5 acres). Staff said certified mail notifications to nearby parcels had been sent and a public hearing notice was published.
On utility work, two companies are conducting fiber‑optic cable installation in the village; staff noted the state grants their utility authority, the village issues building permits for excavation, and staff will inspect restorations when companies finish work.
Code enforcement updates include tweaks to letters about protective treatment violations (mold/mildew/algae) to account for winter conditions and proposals to amend sections 153 and 154 of the village code and a building code update expected for presentation in February.
Park board member Pitts reported Winter Wonderland/Santa's House was open 11 days, served 524 children and relied on 48 volunteers; staff thanked volunteers and construction crews for help.
Next steps: staff will move proposed code changes and planning matters to PNC and present building code updates in February; Public Works will follow up on contractor completion and fiber restoration inspections.
