Summary
The Monroe School District board approved expedited revisions to multiple personnel policies to align with Wisconsin Act 57, which requires prompt notification of parents when the district receives reports of staff misconduct; administration said daily practice already matched most requirements.
The Monroe School District Board of Education voted on March 23 to approve expedited revisions to personnel policies to align with Wisconsin Act 57, which sets mandatory timelines for parent notification when reports of staff misconduct are received.
Administrator Joe explained the district’s recommended changes cover multiple employee groups and add a staff–student relationship section clarifying boundaries and preferential-treatment concerns. He said much of the language comes directly from the statutory guidance and from the district’s policy vendor, Neola, and that district practice already meets the law’s timelines in most cases. "If there's an accusation of a staff member of some kind of inappropriate conduct, you need to contact the parent by 05:00PM that day," Joe said, summarizing the notification timing discussed in the meeting.
Board members asked clarifying questions about the scope of notices (for instance, when reports come from a student or when an image captures a registered offender) and were told that the obligation is triggered when the district receives a report and that staff must notify administration promptly and then the parent within the statute’s timeframe.
The board moved and approved the policy revisions on a motion and voice vote during the meeting.
What’s next: administration will place the revised policies into the district policy manual and operationalize the notification steps described; the policies will be posted and implemented in accordance with Act 57.
