Summary
The Monroe School District board approved a $50,000 CG Schmidt sponsorship (about $35,000 for a video scoreboard and ~$15,000 for trade scholarships over three years) and a $50,000 Thompson family sponsorship to name the high-school press box. Both donations were recommended by administration and approved by voice vote.
The Monroe School District Board of Education on March 23 approved two donor sponsorships for the new high school stadium and field house.
Administration told the board that CG Schmidt offered a $50,000 sponsorship: roughly $35,000 toward a video scoreboard for the new field house and about $15,000 to fund scholarships for graduates entering the trades, distributed over the next three years. "They've been incredible partners," Administrator Joe said, recommending board approval of the donation and the associated sponsorship agreement.
Following discussion and a motion, the board approved the CG Schmidt sponsorship by voice vote.
In a separate item, administration presented a $50,000 sponsorship from the Thompson family to name the stadium press box the Thompson Family Stadium Press Box. The district said the gift will be paid over up to 10 years. "Scott has a history with calling games at Monroe High School," administration said in describing why the family wanted the press box recognition. The board moved and approved the lifetime sponsorship.
Board members thanked the donors and administration for securing the contributions. Administration emphasized that part of the CG Schmidt funds will support scholarships for students pursuing trades, and that detailed scholarship recipient information is embargoed until the district’s announcement night.
The approvals were procedural voice votes; the record shows the motions and the board’s affirmative responses in the meeting minutes. No formal tally of individual yes/no votes was read into the record during the meeting.
What’s next: administration will finalize the sponsorship agreements and return with any formal paperwork, scholarship award details and timeline for installation of the scoreboard and press-box signage.
