Commission approves $65,000 transfer to fund Parkside water-main installation

The Park and Recreation Commission on March 26 approved a request to transfer $65,000 from the park trust/park impact fee account to an expense account to fund the installation of a new water main serving Parkside 0.

Mike (parks staff) presented the request, saying the project will extend a water main from the east side of Main Street to the west side and add a fire hydrant near the Parkside 0 entrance. "Engineering department and Kunkle Engineering are working on the specs," he said, and staff expect to put the project out for bid within about a month and undertake construction this summer ahead of South Main Street reconstruction next year.

Mike said sanitary sewer and water routing are part of the plan and that creating a looped water system would reduce operational risks such as water-hammer events and allow sections to be isolated to keep restrooms and facilities running during repairs. He noted electrical and other utility incorporations are uncertain and may require longer coordination.

The commission moved, seconded and approved the transfer by voice vote. Staff indicated the bid package will be coordinated with common council permissions already discussed and that smaller engineering items may be tacked onto the contract to maximize contractor efficiency.
