Republic Services interim manager tells council collections and outreach will continue during contract transition

An interim municipal manager for Republic Services updated the Covington City Council that daily collections and outreach are on track ahead of a contract transition this summer and offered community outreach and a curbside collection event planned for March.
Wendy Weicker, introduced as Republic Services’ interim municipal manager for Covington, addressed the council during the public comment period to confirm continuity of daily collection operations and outreach while the city prepares for a contract transition later this summer.
Weicker said her operations and outreach teams are planning multifamily outreach in the coming quarter and a curbside collection event in March that will allow residents to place additional bagged garbage at no charge on their regular service day. She emphasized that Republic Services views itself as a sustainability partner to the city and offered in-kind support for community events and tabling to help residents learn about recycling and organics programs.
Weicker also noted ongoing state and regional regulatory changes — including the recycling reform (producer responsibility) act and organics management law — and offered to provide resources and updates to city staff and council on how those laws may affect rates and service going forward.
Council thanked her for the update. No follow-up action was taken during the meeting.
