Summary
Councilors reported upcoming summer infrastructure projects and development plans, the hiring of a new police records specialist to replace a longtime employee, and community events including a Prairie Line Trail ribbon cutting and park-bathroom opening on April 1.
Council members on March 24 reviewed several local infrastructure projects expected this spring and summer, heard a personnel update from city administration and noted upcoming community events.
In the public services committee report, a councilor said railway and Middle Road bids are slated to start and likely finish over spring break, with future sidewalks to be added where right-of-way allows. The speaker described an ADA sidewalk upgrade planned near 507 to 3rd Street and said crews will address drainage on 3rd Street. "Looks like, we got a good news railway and middle road bids, and and it looks like they're gonna start and complete over spring break," the committee member said.
The committee also reported Mill Road realignment set for this summer, a parking-lot project across from Longmire expected to be completed by April 19 and local commercial development including a Panda Express approval with completion anticipated by Thanksgiving. Councilors discussed coordination between transit planning and the city's planning department for new bus routes.
During the administrator's report Scott announced a personnel change in the police department: "Keith Carlson excited to announce the arrival of our new police records specialist, Olivia Roberts. Olivia will be replacing longtime employee Donna McCann as she prepares to retire," Scott said; staff noted Donna McCann's more than 30 years of service to the city. Scott also reported that city clerk Kathy Littemeyer attended a statewide clerks conference and will serve as president of the Washington Municipal Clerks Association.
Staff invited the community to a ribbon cutting for the Prairie Line Trail tomorrow at 3 p.m., said park restrooms will open April 1 and that portable restrooms will be removed after permanent facilities open. Recreation staff also announced teen and adult Easter egg hunts planned for the coming weekend.
Councilors also shared updates from regional bodies, including transit authorities, housing partners and river-conservation groups. No public comments were recorded and the meeting concluded with the council's adjournment.
