Ross resident tells county court to deny tax abatement for proposed Lacey Lakeview data center

Sarah Menarchik, a Ross resident speaking for the Waco Data Center Opposition Group, urged McLennan County commissioners to deny any future tax-abatement requests for the proposed Lacey Lakeview and Infra Key data center projects.
"Nobody wants one of these in their neighborhood, their backyard," Menarchik told the court, adding that 63 people attended a community meeting the group held and 308 watched via livestream. She said national coverage includes reporting by Fortune and interviews with a U.K.-based YouTuber the group said has more than 1,000,000 followers.
Menarchik described the opposition as growing beyond local borders and said that the Ross–Elmont community needs county leaders and the county judge to refuse tax-abatement requests on behalf of the companies involved. She closed by asking commissioners and the judge to protect local residents from changes she described as harmful to tourism and quality of life.
The comment came during the court's public-comment period; the court took no immediate formal action on tax-abatement policy during the March 17 session. The court continued with the agenda after public comment.
