Forks council hears airport grant talks, CIP schedule and service updates

City staff updated the City of Forks council on capital planning, airport grant discussions and local services during the Sept. 8 meeting.
Attorney/Planner Fleck told council members that questions on the proposed Capital Improvement Plan 2026–2031 should be submitted promptly and noted the CIP public hearing is set for Sept. 22. Fleck said the CIP will include additions from the Quillayute Airport Master Plan and that he has been in discussion with the Federal Aviation Administration regarding potential grant funding for runway and hangar improvements. He also referenced work on the Discovery Trail extension to Tillicum.
Public Works Director Hampton reported the chip‑seal project is complete except for a few final details. Mayor Tim Fletcher informed the council that Deputy Clerk Ginger Simons will fill in for Clerk/Treasurer DePew at the next meeting. Council Member Soha reported the licensing office in Forks abruptly closed when the person running it accepted another position and that the vacancy will be posted for bid.
No formal decisions on airport funding or capital projects were recorded; the minutes record upcoming public hearings and staff activity but do not document grant awards or binding commitments.
