Forks City Council approves payroll and claims, appoints homelessness task force alternate and hears staff updates

FORKS, Wash. — At its Feb. 9 regular meeting the Forks City Council approved payroll and claim payments, appointed an alternate to the Clallam County Homelessness Task Force and received staff reports on several city projects.
Council Member Patel moved and Council Member Soha seconded approval of payroll checks 45363 through 45381 in the amount of $154,241.46 and claim checks 45382 through 45406 and EFTs totaling $46,463.77; the motion carried. Later in the meeting the council approved the November 2025 Treasurer's Report on a motion by Soha, seconded by Patel.
Council Member Pearson volunteered to serve as the city's alternate on the Clallam County Homelessness Task Force; Soha moved and Patel seconded the appointment and the motion carried.
During staff reports, Clerk/Treasurer Caryn DePew said the floors at the Recreation Activity Center are being refinished and that the state audit is expected to be complete in a couple of weeks. Public Works Director Hampton reported his crew is working on the E Street water line and expects work to finish within two to three weeks; he also said a paving project request should be going out to bid soon.
Police Chief Rowley described jail expenditures as part of the treasurer's report, said he attended an Emergency Operations Center tabletop simulation of a multi-casualty event, and reported he is in talks with the high school and hospital about a possible school-shooter simulation exercise. Attorney/Planner Fleck introduced tabletop materials provided by the EOC exercise and summarized planning-related items including Planning Commission vacancies, a City Data agreement for geolocation data, and work on the City Parks Comprehensive Plan.
Public comment included a presentation by Lissy Andros, director of the Forks Chamber of Commerce, who provided Visitor Information Center statistics for January 2026. The meeting adjourned at 7:59 p.m.
