The White Salmon City Council on March 4 unanimously approved the consent agenda, which included authorization to submit a 2026 Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) City Safety Program (HSIP) grant application and Pay Application No. 6 to Slateco, LLC for the Buck Creek Roof Replacement Project. The vouchers and payroll listed on the consent agenda totaled $570,440.81.
"The Safety Action Plan, prepared by consultant DKS, is included in the council packet," Public Works Director Chris True said, explaining that the HSIP application follows recommendations from a regional crash and traffic-safety analysis. True noted other funding programs, such as pedestrian and bicycle grants and Transportation Improvement Board (TIB) opportunities, could address issues not covered by the HSIP application.
Councilmember Patty Fink asked whether the grant proposal aligned with the Regional Transportation Council's Safety Action Plan and raised community concerns including traffic along Jewett Boulevard and Safe Routes to School near Spring Street. True confirmed those community concerns could be pursued through other funding sources in addition to HSIP.
The council moved to approve the consent agenda (motion by David Lindley; second by Ben Giant) and recorded a unanimous vote: Giant Aye; Fink Aye; Rainbolt Aye; Mora Aye; Lindley Aye.
