UW Livable City students present midterm Hazard Mitigation Plan to Granite Falls council

University of Washington Livable City Program students presented an initial conditions report and mid-term findings on Granite Falls' Hazard Mitigation Plan, discussed land use, transportation, infrastructure and a rain-based water source concern, and agreed to further explore water-source impacts for the final plan.
Students from the University of Washington’s Livable City Program presented a mid-term update on Granite Falls’ Hazard Mitigation Plan during the March 4 council meeting. The presentation covered the Initial Conditions Report with sections on land use, transportation, natural resources, infrastructure and public works, economic development and housing, and public health and cultural facilities.
Council and staff discussed how the City plan will align with the Snohomish County Hazard Mitigation Plan and flagged a specific risk: the city’s primary water source is rain-dependent rather than snow-pack fed. The students agreed to analyze how a rain-based source may be affected in future hazard scenarios and to incorporate appropriate findings into the plan draft.
The presentation was informational; students will continue work on the plan and return with refined recommendations later in the project roadmap.
