Board adds AP Precalculus to high school offerings

The Garden City Board of Education on March 23 approved adding AP Precalculus to Garden City High School’s program of studies, replacing the current honors precalculus offering.
Kevin English told the board the AP course aligns with the Michigan Merit curriculum and helps students earn college credit through the AP exam. "It is an AP course and they do have the ability to take that AP test to earn credit," English said.
English said the course fits the existing mathematics sequence for students who have completed Algebra II, and the tentative teacher summer training cost of approximately $700 has been identified and is expected to be covered through Title II funding. No additional staffing is required, he said, because the AP course will replace the current offering.
After a motion, second and voice vote, the board approved adding AP Precalculus beginning in the 2026–27 school year.
District staff noted the course addition followed review by the staff curriculum and development council and prior committee presentations. The board did not record a roll call for this motion in the transcript.
