State archives consultant fields records questions at joint Granite Falls session

Sean Reichard, Senior Records Consultant with the Washington State Archives Office, answered questions about a training video titled “The Basics of Managing Records” at a joint Granite Falls City Council and Planning Commission work session on Jan. 14, 2026.
The session followed distribution of the video to council and commission members; Reichard responded to questions about current state legislation governing public records and described grant opportunities for records management, City Clerk Darla Wilkins said.
The training and Q&A were presented as part of routine compliance and education for elected officials and staff. Reichard addressed how recently enacted state requirements intersect with local recordkeeping, and staff noted resources available through the Department of Commerce and other state programs.
No formal action or vote was taken on records policy at the meeting. City staff said training materials and links will remain available for officials and staff to review before any policy changes are proposed.
The City Council and Planning Commission are expected to continue routine training and will bring any required ordinance or policy changes back to a future meeting if needed.
