Summary
Danville Community School Corp Superintendent Tracy Schafer outlined progress on a districtwide master campus plan, listing completed high-school additions, athletics upgrades, a new transportation facility nearly finished, and remaining work through a 2027 completion timetable.
Tracy Schafer, superintendent of Danville Community School Corp, gave a status update on the district's multi-year master campus plan, saying major high-school additions and athletic facilities are open and that the overall project remains on schedule and within budget.
Schafer said the district opened the high school's new secure entrance and renovated front offices and guidance suites, and added a 14-classroom wing with restrooms on the east side to accommodate student growth. "We first had a new secure entrance at the high school," she said, noting the new spaces also bring more light and improved security.
The update listed athletics improvements including new turf and bleachers at Warrior Stadium and a new locker-room building designed to keep student athletes from traveling between school and the stadium during events. Schafer also said the district completed an eight-lane competition pool with seating for about 600 spectators, which will allow the district to host sectionals and other state-level events.
She described interior renovations at the high school: a new main-entry library; a returned classroom block on the east side; upgraded career and technical education spaces, including new Project Lead The Way labs; relocated alternative-school classrooms in renovated flexible spaces; and fine-arts rooms (band and choir) repurposed from the former pool area.
Looking ahead, Schafer said crews will complete a fine-arts addition on the north side, new art classrooms, expanded family and consumer science areas, and a new dedicated special-education space adjacent to the east side. The district also plans to repurpose old family and consumer science space to enlarge the cafeteria and replace the kitchen to serve a growing student population.
On athletics and site work, Schafer said the district will finish a new on-campus softball stadium and upgrade the track around the football field later this spring and into summer. "We added, new turf and new bleachers, to the stadium," she said, and described the softball and track work as part of completing student-athlete facilities.
Schafer said the transportation project west of the middle school is well underway: a new bus lot with lighting and underground utilities has been installed, and the bus garage is in advanced construction with steel and concrete block work finished. "The transportation project itself will complete this summer in July, so we'll be ready to utilize that facility as we start back to school with transportation operations early this fall," she said.
She gave a progress estimate for the whole master campus plan: "We are about 60 to 70% through the entire project," and said final completion is slated for 2027. Schafer thanked the community for backing the project and emphasized the work has remained on time and on budget.
The district's next steps include finishing the fine-arts addition, completing kitchen and cafeteria renovations, finishing athletic-site improvements and completing the transportation facility in July to support fall operations. Schafer framed the projects as a response to district growth and aging facilities; many buildings, she said, were 25 to 50 years old and needed updating to provide improved learning spaces.
No formal votes or motions were recorded in the update; Schafer presented the project status and timelines as administrative information and thanked the community for its support.
