Board members reported event updates: Rhythm and Rails and a volunteer breakfast on April 18; a progressive dinner with strong ticket sales; 'Meet Me on Main' set for Aug. 8 (tax-free weekend); visitor center anniversary May 22; and an "Imagine the Possibilities" property tour on May 16.
Members of the Main Street Advisory Board provided updates on a slate of downtown events and promotional efforts intended to drive visitors and investment to Denison's central business district.
Committee members said Rhythm and Rails is advancing with buskers placed on multiple blocks and a volunteer breakfast scheduled for April 18 at the Eisenhower Birthplace. A presenter reported the progressive dinner was nearing capacity with 78 online sales and expected day-of sales.
Staff introduced "Meet Me on Main," a full-day downtown shopping and activation event planned for Aug. 8 (tax-free weekend) that will include music, promotions, block activations, ribbon cuttings, scavenger hunts, QR-code check-ins and business participation. "The event is set for August 8, which is tax free weekend," staff said, and encouraged businesses to consider block activations and promotions.
The visitor center will mark its first anniversary on May 22 with a Denison-themed tote for shoppers, and an "Imagine the Possibilities" property tour is scheduled for May 16 to coincide with the North Texas Arts Fest; attendees will pick up maps at the visitor center and visit participating properties to showcase available downtown spaces for investors and tenants.
Board members said they will continue coordination on logistics such as street closures, staging, vendor hookups and communication with businesses while Heritage Park construction and streetscape projects progress. Several members encouraged broad participation and promotion to ensure events drive foot traffic and retail sales downtown.
