Granite Falls City Council voted unanimously on Nov. 19 to adopt Ordinance No. 1067-2025, which reduces the utility tax rate on water and sewer utility services from 20% to 10% for calendar year 2026 and subsequent years.
Mayor Pro Tem Tom FitzGerald moved the ordinance and Councilmember Steven Glenn seconded. Councilmembers and the mayor recorded aye votes with no opposition.
The ordinance amends the municipal code (Section 3.10.20 of Chapter 3.10) to set the new utility tax rate. The council did not record extended debate in the meeting minutes provided; the motion was made and carried during the new business portion of the agenda.
Next steps: the ordinance will be codified and applied beginning with calendar year 2026; the city finance staff will implement the tax-rate change in billing and revenue estimates.
