The Westford Select Board unanimously authorized the town manager to sign a contract with McGovern Municipal Headquarters for $69,423.50 to purchase a 2026 Chevy Tahoe LT 4-wheel drive for the Fire Department.
Deputy Chief (on the line) told the board that vehicle ordering windows are limited and the vendor's allocation quota can close at short notice; securing the vehicle now increases the town's chance of receiving it without waiting an additional six months. "If we do not secure the vehicle now, we are, potentially out of luck as they are only granted a certain number of quota per year," the deputy chief said, noting the town meeting previously approved a $110,000 expenditure that will cover the vehicle and subsequent equipment costs.
Board members asked about total cost and budgeted amounts; the deputy chief confirmed the $69,423.50 is for the vehicle only and that additional equipment costs would follow. The board voted unanimously to authorize execution of the purchase contract so staff could attempt to secure the allocation in the current ordering window.
Staff will proceed with contract execution and return with equipment budget details and delivery estimates as they become available.
